TSCM Operations

A Technical Surveillance Countermeasure (TSCM) Operation, also known as a 'bug sweeping' or electronic surveillance sweep, is a highly-specialized assignment that aims to detect the presence of eavesdropping devices such as hidden microphones, hidden cameras or other technical or mechanical listening device.

Additionally, the goal of a TSCM Operation is to identify existing security breaches and/or potential weaknesses in technical and communications security and to recommend corrective action to neutralize the risks.

During a TSCM Operation, typical activities include:

  • Physical security assessment of the surveyed area,

  • Physical search of devices, using thermal cameras and a variety of disassembly and exploration tools,

  • Electronic search of devices, using Radio Spectrum Analyzers and various tools used to detect malicious activity,

  • Communication security assessment.
